How do I Clean My Sunbrella Fabric?

One of the best ways to keep Sunbrella® fabrics looking good is to hose fabrics off on a monthly basis with clear water. This helps prevent dirt from becoming deeply embedded in the fabric and eliminates the need for more frequent vigorous cleaning. In most environments, a thorough cleaning will be needed every two to three years. When it’s time for a thorough cleaning, Sunbrella fabrics can be cleaned while still on an awning frame or, size permitting, they can be removed to aid in the cleaning of stubborn stains or for professional cleaning.

How Long Do Awnings Last?

Caparro Awning Company offers welded seam technology. Today’s acrylic fabrics are typically under warranty for a period of 8 years. With proper care, they should be expected to be serviceable for 7-12 years, depending on exposure. Welded seams use the inherent strength of the fabric itself, along with a formulated polymer bonding agent, to achieve seams which will last the serviceable life of the fabric itself.

The use of “ptfe lifetime” threads are used in places where welding is not practical. Ptfe threads combined with welded seams for an unbeatable 1-2 combination.

Some of the advantages of welding seams on acrylic fabric awnings, include:

  • Waterproof seams
  • No call backs for brand new leaking awnings
  • Virtually invisible seams
  • No holes seen from underneath
  • Valance seams hang without puckering
  • Flatter roll on retractable awnings
  • Eliminates stitching repairs in the future
  • Substantially eliminates threads
